01 / Problems we fix

Common dishwasher problems we repair.

Standing water, leaks and dirty dishes each have a short list of likely causes. We work through them in order.

  • Dishwasher Not Draining

Standing water after the cycle usually comes from a blocked filter or sump, a clogged drain hose, a failed drain pump or a blocked air gap or garbage-disposal connection. If the disposal was recently replaced, the knockout plug may never have been removed.

    • Water left in the bottom after the cycle
    • Drain pump hums but nothing moves
    • Water backing up into the sink
  • Dishwasher Leaking

Leaks at the front usually involve the door gasket, the hinge seals or a dishwasher that is not level. Leaks underneath point to the pump seal, the hoses, the inlet valve or a cracked tub. We find the source before parts are replaced.

  • Dishwasher Not Cleaning Dishes

Dishes that come out gritty or greasy point to weak spray pressure. Clogged spray arms, a blocked filter, a failing circulation pump, a stuck inlet valve or water that is not getting hot enough can all be responsible.

  • Dishwasher Won’t Start

No lights or a cycle that never begins may involve the door latch and switch, the control panel, a blown thermal fuse, the control board or the power supply. Many dishwashers also lock their controls after a power interruption.

  • Standing Water in Dishwasher

A little water in the sump is normal. A tub that stays full after the cycle is not. We clear the drain path from the filter to the sink connection and test the drain pump and the check valve.

  • Dishwasher Making Loud Noises

Grinding usually means debris in the pump or chopper assembly, a failing wash-pump motor or a spray arm hitting a rack. Buzzing at the start of the cycle often points to the drain pump or the inlet valve.

  • Dishwasher Door Won’t Latch

A door that won’t close or lock may have a worn latch assembly, a bent strike plate, a broken door spring or hinge, or racks that are out of position. Because the dishwasher will not run until the latch engages, this is a common no-start cause.

  • Dishwasher Error Codes

Bosch E15, E24 and E25, Samsung 5C and OC, LG OE and AE, and similar codes tell us which system flagged a fault. We use the code as the starting point and confirm the failed part before replacing it.

02 / In detail

Built-In, Drawer and Portable Dishwashers

We service standard 24-inch built-ins, compact 18-inch models, single and double drawer dishwashers and portable units. Panel-ready integrated dishwashers from Bosch, Thermador, KitchenAid and Miele need care to remove and refit the cabinet panel, and our technicians are used to working with them.

Dishwasher Repair vs. Replacement

A dishwasher under eight years old with a failed pump, valve or latch is almost always worth repairing. An older unit with a cracked tub, or a failed control board and pump together, may not be. We give you the estimate and our honest view so you can decide.

  • Age of the appliance

An older appliance approaching the end of its typical useful life may not justify an expensive repair.

  • Repair cost

Compare the expected repair expense with the cost of purchasing and installing a comparable replacement.

  • Overall condition

An appliance that has otherwise been dependable may be an excellent repair candidate.

  • Previous repairs

Repeated failures can change the economics of another repair.

  • Replacement cost

Premium refrigerators, ranges and other high-end appliances can be expensive to replace, making repair particularly worthwhile in some situations.

$75 Diagnostic Service

Our $75 diagnostic fee covers the technician coming out to check the issue, and it is applied toward the repair if you go ahead.

Dishwasher Repair FAQs

Still have a question? Tell us the appliance, the model number and what it’s doing.

Call (571) 303-8548

My dishwasher has standing water. Can I run it again?

Don’t keep running cycles. Scoop out most of the water, check and clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, and if it still won’t drain, call us. Repeated attempts can overheat the drain pump.

Why is my Bosch dishwasher showing E15 or E24?

E15 means water has reached the base pan and the anti-flood switch has tripped, usually from a leak. E24 points to a drain problem. Both need the cause found rather than just the code cleared.

Do you repair panel-ready and integrated dishwashers?

Yes. We service integrated models from Bosch, Thermador, KitchenAid, Miele and others, including removing and refitting the cabinet panel.

How much does dishwasher repair cost?

It depends on the appliance, the problem and the parts required. Our $75 diagnostic fee covers the technician coming out to check the issue, and it is applied toward the repair if you go ahead. You receive the estimate before any approved work starts.

Why aren’t my dishes getting clean?

Weak spray pressure is the usual reason: clogged spray arms or filter, a failing circulation pump or water that is not hot enough. Detergent and loading matter too, and the technician will show you what to check.

Can you fix a dishwasher that won’t fill?

Yes. No fill usually involves the water inlet valve, the float switch, the door switch or a closed supply valve under the sink.
